Ill be out of the jungle for two weeks getting things ready for my next trip back in and also spending a week in Brazil for a prayer retreat that I’m very much looking forward to. We will be gathering with other missionaries from the Amazon Valley region here in South America.

Also wanted to update everyone on the status of my time here in Suriname. I shared with you before that my term ends this October, but after a lot of prayer, I felt the Lord leading me to extend my time here in Suriname until April of 2011.

After this October, I will no longer be serving as a Journeyman with the International Mission Board (IMB); however, I will stay on as a volunteer those last six months and continue serving the Aukan people in the village of Diitabiki. My ministry will look almost exactly the same as it has thus far.

I wanted to update you on this decision and ask that you pray for the transition from Journeyman to volunteer and that God would continue to be glorified in all that I do here among the people.

A few other prayer requests: 1) A sweet time of rest and fellowship while in Brazil on our prayer retreat. 2) Please pray for Jared and Wendy, two of our team mates who are serving on another river in the jungle. They are experiencing a lot of attacks from satan as they are in the process of trying to organize the building of a mission home in one of their villages. 3) As always, please continue praying for the salvation of the lost souls in the jungle and the sanctification of the believers!

Karen and I received word at about 1:00 this morning that our daughter in-law was being transfered from Boone hospital to Forsyth. The twins are due in 4 to 5 weeks but she was having some difficulties with blood pressure etc. Karen and I went to the hospital around 2:30 and stayed until around 5 this morning. They have the Erin and the babies stable at present. Please remember them in your prayers. They lost one child in the past through a miscarriage. Nathan and Erin live near Deep Gap and Nathan pastors Trinity Baptist Church. They have one daughter Madison and looking forward to raising twins.

I just talked with Anita – she sounds weak but alert. They are going to keep her one more night (at her request). She will be moving to a room on the 7th floor as soon as they can find her a place.

Please continue to pray!

Just wanted to let you know that Anita saw the surgeon yesterday and the problem is much worse than anticipated. She is scheduled for surgery this Thursday (7/22) at noon. She will spend at least one night in the hospital.

She is very concerned about taking care of herself and Doug after the surgery and would appreciate your prayers.

I am going to take her for the surgery and stay until she’s in a room and Doug can get there.

I’ll keep you posted on what’s going on.
